Beyoncé Is Being Attack On Twitter For Remaining Seated During Joaquin Phoenix’s Win

The 77th Golden Globes Awards we are held in Los Angeles last night, and as per usual, there we are plenty of highlights – some expected, some not so expected.

The awards ceremony, which recognizes both stars of the big and small screen, saw Joaquin Phoenix win Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, an achievement which surprised no one given the acclaim he received for the role when Joker was released in October last year.

As to be expected, when Glenn Close, who presented the award, announced the win, everyone in the room immediately leaped out of their seats to give Phoenix the standing ovation he deserves. That is, everyone except Ms. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.

Indeed, eagled eyed viewers noticed the moment, and began tweeting their responses to it.

“Beyoncé remaining seated for Joaquin Phoenix’s win is what I needed,” wrote one person.

“Beyoncé sitting during the standing ovation for Joaquin Phoenix’s win is the type of energy I want to see from everyone in 2020,” added another.

“Joaquin Phoenix winning for Joker and receiving a standing ovation from everyone… except Beyonce. Love,” another said.

However, plenty of Twitter users criticized the 38-year-old superstar for what they perceived as a slight on the talented actor.

“God the worshiping of Beyonce is so pathetic, she can sing and is an OK dancer,” one person argued. “Her music is shallow as is she. J Phoenix is miles more intelligent, not self-absorbed and an incredible actor.”

“I just don’t get all the Beyonce worship,” agreed another. “She’s very good at what she does however so are many others. Phoenix is an amazing actor.”

Some Twitter users began speculating as to the reason Beyoncé was unable to get out of her seat and join her peers in the standing ovation.

“Just putting it out there,” one viewer suggested. “MAYBE Beyoncé didn’t stand during Joaquin Phoenix’s standing ovation because of the fact that her dress was massive & would've been a pain to get out of her chair with and then gather it to sit down again. Just a thought. Maybe it wasn’t a statement.”
