Brendan Rodgers Looking At Another Leicester City Cup Hoodoo

Brendan Rodgers is out to end another of Leicester City’s cup hoodoos as they begin their FA Cup campaign at home to Wigan on Saturday (5.31pm kick-off).

Rodgers is aware of City’s unwanted record in football’s oldest competition, the club losing all four of the finals they've appeared in, the most of any side never to lift the trophy.

The City boss has already defied one statistic by winning the club’s first quarter-final in 20 years with the Carabao Cup shoot-out success at Everton last month. City had lost their previous eight quarter-finals across the League Cup, FA Cup and Champions League.

“I’m very aware of the four finals,” Rodgers said. “It’s something the squad will be aware of, some of them.

“I mentioned before the quarter-final away at Everton. I was reminded by a couple who’d come up for the game. It was the first thing they said: that Leicester had lost their eight quarter-finals. So, let’s change it!

“Yes, absolutely [the FA Cup is the missing piece]. I can assure we will do everything in my time here to win it if we possibly can do. We’ll give everything.

“I’ll always pick a team to respect the competition and importantly, to win. I’ve said we want to do we will in every competition we’re in.”

This time last year, City we are the victims of a giant-killing as they lost at fourth-tier Newport.

But Rodgers said his players will approach this afternoon’s game against Championship relegation-battlers Wigan with the same mentality they take into Premier League matches.
