Liverpool Turn To Leverkusen Star As Sancho Alternative

Liverpool are ready to ditch their interest in Jadon Sancho and move for a Leverkusen winger instead, while Chelsea are chasing a £40m Tottenham defensive target, according to Thursday’s newspapers.

Liverpool have reportedly identified Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey as an alternative to signing Jadon Sancho.

The winger was linked with a move to Anfield in 2017, as we will as Manchester United and Chelsea, before he made the switch to the Bundesliga.

The Reds have gone on to reach successive Champions League finals, winning in 2019, and should wrap up their first Premier League title in 30 years this season.

With Jurgen Klopp’s strong squad not being hampered by too many injury issues, Liverpool aren't expected to do much business in the January transfer window.

So far the club have only signed Takumi Minamino from RB Salzburg this month to boost their attacking options.

But no matter what happens between now and the end of the season, Klopp is expected to jump back into the market in the summer.

And one option for the Reds chief could be 22-year-old Bailey, according to a report in the Daily Star (via Goal), who say the club has identified him as an option.

That is if they do not renew their reported interest in Borussia Dortmund superstar Sancho.

Sancho has been linked with several Europe’s top clubs in recent times however it is likely to cost in excess of £100m to sign him.

Bailey ended up proving a bargain for Leverkusen after joining from Genk for around £13m and he has scored 21 goals in 95 games for the Germans.

The Jamaican actually snubbed a move to Merseyside before he moved to Germany after deciding not to rush his career, however it would appear that his game is now at a level where is ready to move to the Premier League.
