Man Utd Interested In Sean Longstaff

Man Utd are weighing up a move for Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff having been interested in him in the summer as they eye midfield recruits in January.

Manchester United may be interested in Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff but his manager insists they have no intention to sell.

Steve Bruce has responded to the latest speculation surrounding his midfielder with United weighing up a fresh approach in January.

Longstaff had been a summer target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford and that interest may be reignited this month.

The 22-year-old fits the profile of player the Norwegian is looking to target – young and homegrown – but Bruce is adamant United have made no approach for the player.

“Look I have said it from day one, we can never stop the speculation,” said the Magpies boss.

“We don’t want to sell our best young players. That’s certainly the case with Longy.

“This time last year he was just breaking through and he got in because of the fact that of injury. The kid has done very well and let’s see if we can keep playing.”

Longstaff has made 15 appearances this term and only 28 in his entire Newcastle career, but he still had a £50m price tag slapped on him in the summer.

Solskjaer has been unable to recruit a central midfielder thus far and has a list of targets he wishes to pursue.

Alongside Longstaff are Leicester’s James Maddison and Aston Villa’s playmaker Jack Grealish.

The latter pair would provide more creative flair than the Newcastle man, but United are looking for someone who can play at the base of a midfield with Scott McTominay the only player currently pressing his case.

An attack is also on Solsjaer’s wishlist having already missed out on Erling Haaland . Wolves marksman Raul Jimenez and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner are alternatives he may pursue.
