Ethan Hamilton returned to Man United from Southend last week and is about to head back out on loan in League One.

Manchester United midfielder Ethan Hamilton has agreed to join Bolton Wanderers on loan.

The MEN revealed Hamilton, 21, returned to United from a season-long loan with Southend last week and was expected to join a different club this week.

Hamilton will be reunited at Bolton with manager Keith Hill, who brought the Scot to Rochdale in January last year. Bolton are bottom of League One, two points below Southend with three games in hand.

Scotland youth international Hamilton played 16 times for Southend after a successful period with Dale, where he scored four times to spark their resurgence and avoid relegation. Rochdale manager Brian Barry-Murphy suggested at a fans’ forum in August they tried to re-sign Hamilton but didn't have the finances to match Southend.

Hamilton last played for Southend on December 7 and was an unused substitute in the last four fixtures he was available for. Sol Campbell replaced Kevin Bond as the Southend manager in October.

Hamilton was named in the United squad for their FA Cup fifth round tie at Huddersfield Town in February 2018 but didn't figure in their third round trip to Wolves on Saturday. United midfielders Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay are both out injured.

Hamilton travelled with the United squad to the United States for their pre-season tour in 2018 and came on in the 1-1 draw with AC Milan in Carson City. He has never played for the first-team in a competitive fixture, though.
