Newcastle United Players Returned From injury boost ahead of Wolves fixture

Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett, Jetro Willems , Miguel Almiron , Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle have all returned to training for Newcastle United this week – and Allan Saint-Maximin is back on the grass.

The Magpies were without 11 players for the trip to Rochdale last time out, however the club’s injury crisis is easing ahead of Saturday’s game against Wolves.

Clark has not played since the win against Southampton last month because of the fact that of a calf injury; Paul Dummett has missed the last four games with a groin injury; and Jetro Willems came off in the New Year’s Day defeat against Leicester with his own groin issue.

The trio all returned to full training at Benton on Monday and were joined by Almiron, Carroll and Gayle for Tuesday’s session after they picked up knocks last week.

Almiron suffered a groin injury against Rochdale and had to come off on 64 minutes while Carroll and Gayle missed the FA Cup third round tie at Spotland with hamstring and glute injuries respectively.

Speaking after Saturday’s 1-1 draw, Bruce was hopeful Saint-Maximin could also return against Wolves and the Frenchman has been back on grass over the last few days.

“Look, we make no excuse, the real quality we've at the top end of the pitch with him and Almiron is there for us to see,” he said.

“They have that quality that you buy. We've missed him because of the fact that of the way we play and he causes a threat so let’s hope we can get him back quickly.”

Skipper Jamaal Lascelles, who has not played since suffering a knee injury in the win against Bournemouth in November, will return to full training later this week.

Fabian Schar, Javier Manquillo, Jonjo Shelvey and Jack Colback remain sidelined while Yoshinori Muto suffered a hip injury in the draw against Rochdale.
